The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (2024)

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (1)

As the first award show of the season and the first since 2023’s Hollywood strikes, the 81st Golden Globes will no doubt help set the standard for what we can expect from the red carpet in 2024. And if the scene at the Beverly Hilton tonight is any indication, we can anticipate plenty of showstopping Schiaparelli (straight off the runway and archival), red-hot gowns in shades of ruby, and unexpected headpieces that feel a little bit wicked.

Ahead, the top 14 best-dressed stars at the 2024 Golden Globes.

1

Rosamund Pike in FW19 Dior

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (2)

Rosamund Pike’s Saltburn character, Elspeth Catton, wore a handful of 2006 Valentino gowns for the film. But tonight, Pike opted for a Dior look from the Fall/Winter 2019 collection. When asked if she was channeling her character on the carpet, she said it was a “weird funeral vibe,” but that perhaps Elspeth would “wear black to her wedding, wouldn’t she?” Her headpiece, which cast a net of black lace across her face, also felt very apt, but Pike admitted the “protective veil” was a last-minute accessory to cover up the consequences of a recent skiing accident. Either way, Elspeth would so approve.

2

Hunter Schafer in custom Prada

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (3)

Given Hunter Schafer’s incredible Hunger Games press tour wardrobe, complete with McQueen armor and wearable Marni floral arrangements, her look for the Golden Globes was highly anticipated. And she did not disappoint, in a custom blush Prada gown with wispy pieces of sheer ethereal fabric that looked like the wind itself encircling her.

Natasha Lyonne in Schiaparelli

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (4)

Year after year, people complain that celebrities aren’t watching the couture shows closely enough and taking the kind of fashion risks that feel like a fantasy. And then there’s Natasha Lyonne. Tonight she wore a statuesque Schiaparelli from the Spring/Summer 2023 runway, which had plenty of commenters on Twitter claiming, “Oh … she’s taking it.” And yes, she is taking it there.

4

Dua Lipa in custom Schiaparelli

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (5)

Speaking with interviewers on the red carpet, Dua Lipa—nominated tonight for her song “Dance the Night,” for Barbie—said the euphoric reception to the song and the film mirrored that of the energy on set. “It just all felt so right,” she said, which is exactly how we feel about her in this custom Schiaparelli gown with protruding gold bones against black velvet. The only thing that could make the look even more major was her archival Tiffany choker from 1962.

6

Jennifer Aniston in Dolce & Gabbana

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (7)

Jennifer Aniston has been trending on Twitter since she stepped onto the red carpet for a reason. Her new haircut, a fresh take on the iconic “Rachel” chop, shows the star is never too far from her roots—and the same can be said for this simple black strapless Dolce & Gabbana dress with scalloped beading detailing on the skirt.

Greta Lee in Loewe

While Past Lives is all about unfulfilled romances, star Greta Lee’s relationship with Loewe is one we’re grateful to see thriving in the present. The two feel like a match made in heaven, and her custom buttery look was as divine as we’ve come to expect. As she told Bazaar in March, after Paris Fashion Week, Jonathan Anderson has an “uncanny sense of the passage of time, but it is really evoking a strong emotion. There’s such an awareness of a body, a corporeal body awareness.” And yet, the look is so good, we feel like we’re having an out-of-body experience just looking at it.

8

Taylor Swift in Gucci

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (9)

Taylor Swift has become known for her shimmering silver dresses, but it appears she may be exiting her Midnights era with this green metallic Gucci number. The slinky (and snaky) gown feels like an exciting departure from her signature style, and one can’t help but wonder: Is that an Easter egg of sorts?

Natalie Portman in Dior Haute Couture

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (10)

Natalie Portman’s beauty is often likened to that of a classic painting, and her sparkling beaded Dior gown also reminds us of a Monet masterpiece. The look appears to have been inspired by the Fall 2012 haute couture Dior collection designed by Raf Simons, which Portman has worn before, for her Miss Dior campaigns.

10

Oprah in custom Louis Vuitton

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (11)

To promote The Color Purple, Oprah wore purple, of course. After the living legend attended the Louis Vuitton show this past spring, the label’s team called and asked what they could do for her. To which she said, “It’s gotta be purple!” After all, nobody wears the color quite as well as she does.

Julia Garner in Gucci

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (12)

There are low-cut gowns and then there are gowns like Julia Garner’s shimmering Gucci statement, which completely redefine the genre. With two plunging straps akin to suspenders, the gown is undeniably sultry, but in a way that feels so specific and special.

12

Ayo Edebiri in custom Prada

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (13)

With every red carpet and Fashion Week appearance, Ayo Edebiri proves she is the style star of the moment. Her red-hot custom Prada gown had a long red double-layer train of satin and tulle. Like Schafer’s Prada, it had exquisite movement that followed Edebiri as she made her way into the ceremony, but it was her glowing smile that made the look truly transcendent.

Julianne Moore in Bottega Veneta

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (14)

Red already appears to be the color of 2024. Julianne Moore proved the red carpet could always use more of it with her fiery Bottega.

14

Carey Mulligan in archival Schiaparelli

The 14 Best-Dressed Stars at the 81st Golden Globes (15)

The lobster dress at Schiaparelli’s most recent couture show took the internet by storm and was deemed a real fashion delicacy. But the look was actually based on an archival Schiaparelli design from 1949, which Carey Mulligan wore tonight. It was freaky and weird and sexy and, yes, delicious, in a way nothing else on the red carpet was.
